About

A Charming Straw Bale Home

When the wind comes from the West, you can hear the crashing of the surf on Redgate Beach just over the ridge.

The house has the wonderful insulating qualities of straw – cool in the summer, warm in the winter. A wood heater with abundant firewood from our own plantation will ensure your warmth and cosiness whatever the weather!

Stroll around the farm, and you are likely to see kangaroos and emus. Go spotlighting at night in the natural bush behind the house, and you’ll find possums, phascogales, bandicoots and maybe even a coupan!!! 🙂

The house itself is spacious, with several living areas, 2 TVs with free-to-air satellite reception, a fully equipped kitchen, with plentiful good quality pots, pans and appliances, an enormous marri wood dining table, beautiful lead-light windows and comfortable beds.

There are 6 large bedrooms – 5 with queen beds (one is on a loft), and a 6th bedroom with twin beds. The enormous upstairs lounge can be closed off for a 7th bedroom with mattresses.

There are 3 bathrooms with loos, so no need to queue!

There is a table tennis table which can be wheeled out for a game on the back patio.

Dogs

Dogs are very welcome at The Straw House, please note there is a $10 per dog, per night applied to the duration of your stay. Please note, The Straw House is in a bush setting with wildlife and farm animals nearby, guidelines for your furry friends will be provided when booking.

The Local Area

A short drive down Redgate Road takes you to the wonderful beaches of Redgate, or head to the bright lights of Margaret River only 10 minutes away. The prestigious wineries, Arlewood Estate Leeuwin Estate, Voyager Estate, Xanadu, Cape Mentelle and Redgate Winery are 5 minutes away.

Alternatively, just stay put, relax, and enjoy a bit of serenity with nature!

Leavers

We do accept leavers, but under some fairly stringent conditions. We’ve been very pleased with most of our leavers groups, and believe in giving them a fair go. There will be a returnable bond payable of $100 each. This is to be paid in cash on arrival and will be returned in cash on your departure after a satisfactory inspection of the house.

Large Groups

There are often multi-generational family catch ups, which is lovely to see. However we are not suited for events, parties, bucks/hens gatherings, weddings or raucous weekends. This is a beautiful, peaceful property and we like to provide the country/homely escape away from the noise and bustle of city life, to our guests.

Please Note...

The driveway to the house is about 400m long, so away from traffic noise and danger. Be aware that you will approach along gravel roads that can get dusty and occasionally corrugated. Kangaroos and emus roam freely, so drive carefully as they are not traffic wise at all!
